Invisalign® aligners conveniently and comfortably reveal your confident smile

What are Invisalign® aligners?

Invisalign® aligners are a type of oral appliance. They’re worn in your mouth, similar to how you might wear a night guard to protect your teeth from bruxism (tooth-grinding). The aligners are made from a proprietary type of plastic, SmartTrack. This thermoplastic is transparent, flexible, and smooth. So, when the aligner slips over your teeth, it won’t poke against the inside of your mouth. Plus, since the aligners are see-through, they are virtually invisible when you smile. Additionally, you can see the gradual results from treatment.

The process

Dr. Giulio Spagnuolo will evaluate if you are a good candidate for Invisalign®. In its 20-year history, Invisalign® has evolved. This treatment is now appropriate for many patients, including those with overbite, underbite, and other imbalances. If Invisalign® is right for you, we’ll use Invisalign®’s specialized ClinCheck software to create a step-by-step map of your treatment. This 3-dimensional model shows you exactly how the Invisalign® aligners straighten your teeth.

This model is also used to fabricate the aligners. Treatment requires that you wear a series of aligners. Each aligner is slightly different to correspond with every phase of treatment. When worn as directed for around two weeks, each aligner places gentle pressure on the teeth to incrementally reposition them. Every four to six weeks or so you’ll visit our office. Dr. Spagnuolo will check your progress and give you more aligners.

The total number of aligners that are required to reposition your teeth depends on factors such as the nature and complexity of your case, as well as patient compliance. Invisalign® aligners are removable. Wear them as directed by your dentist. Only remove them for effective cleaning and for comfortable eating. Generally, though, Align Technology reports that the average treatment time is around 12 to 18 months.
