What are “one-visit” dental crowns?

Traditionally, general dentists have applied many manual processes to common treatments. For instance, crowns conventionally require at least two visits to the dentist’s office. The first visit involves preparing the decayed or damaged tooth to “accept” the crown. Information about the prepared tooth is then gathered. These details are sent to an outside lab, where a ceramist uses them to make your permanent crown.

A temporary crown is placed by your dentist to protect the prepared tooth while you wait for the permanent crown to be made. After the crown is delivered to your dentist’s office, you’ll return. Then, your dentist will remove the temporary crown and cement and fix the permanent crown. If the crown doesn’t look or feel right, it must be re-made. You’ll return to the office for a third visit once the second permanent crown or adjusted crown is ready.

The crowns are made precisely to your specifications while you wait.
