Traditionally, teeth have been straightened with a system of metal, silver-coloured wires and brackets. These braces are fixed, which means they can only be removed, tightened, and otherwise adjusted by a dentist or orthodontist. Invisalign® is different. While Invisalign® treatment places consistent pressure on the teeth to effectively reposition them, it does so comfortably, discreetly, and efficiently. Instead of using fixed brackets and wires to move the teeth, Invisalign® uses a series of removable oral aligners to treat crooked, crowded, gapped, and misaligned teeth and bites.
These oral aligners are made from a smooth, flexible, and clear thermoplastic. A series of aligners are needed to complete treatment. While each aligner looks similar, they are slightly different to correspond with specific stages in your treatment plan. The aligners are made precisely using advanced, proprietary software and 3-D printing capabilities. The number of aligners required for treatment depends on the type of orthodontic problem we are correcting and the severity of that condition. Satisfied patients range from those who formerly had minor cosmetic spacing issues to those with more extensive “bite” problems, such as an overbite, underbite, crossbite, or open bite. All of these conditions are now treatable with the ever-evolving Invisalign® technology.
On average, with good “compliance,” patients can straighten their teeth in around one year – with some patients achieving their goal smiles in as little as six months. By compliance, we are simply referring to daily wear time. It is essential that each set of aligners be worn at all times. The only exception to this rule: You can take out your aligners before brushing or flossing your teeth, and cleaning the aligners themselves.

They can continue to enjoy their favourite foods and do not have to worry about developing conditions like tooth decay due to the challenges associated with brushing and flossing during traditional orthodontic treatment.
